Take Me to School

I love to speak with groups of authors, educators, and librarians and to present my kid-friendly and engaging programs to young readers.

However, in order to continue my support of equity and inclusivity in the world of books and beyond, I am not available for book events that discriminate against marginalized or underrepresented people either on the page or off.

School Year 2021-2022

With the launch of Becoming Hercules, I will be updating my presentations to include information about writing serial fiction, exploring ancient world cultures, and restoring diversity and inclusion to classic texts.

I am excited about the reopening of schools and a return to normal after the chaos of the coronavirus pandemic. My own children attended school remotely from March of 2020 through the end of the past school year, so I know how disruptive these times have been and how much work it took for teachers to make education happen.

I am available for in-person events, subject to ongoing COVID restrictions, but have retained the option of remote visits through Zoom, Google Meets, or similar platforms.

Special Features

In addition to the decades I’ve devoted to polishing my writing craft, and my deep knowledge of contemporary children’s literature, I also have a passion for education and a certification in English Language Arts for grades 5-12. I have extensive experience speaking in the classroom and can hook my presentations into multiple Common Core standards.

I love to discuss the writing process with students of all ages and to engage them in workshop activities, and I can also assist educators in using my stories as a jumping-off point for discussions of world cultures, geography, history, or science.
